Installation Pre Conditions

Pre-Conditions for a Perfect Stretch Ceiling Installation

Ensure these pre-conditions are met before installing a stretch ceiling for a smooth, durable finish.

  • Room Completion: All major construction, painting, and plastering must be finished.
  • Dry & Dust-Free Environment: The space must be clean, dust-free, and moisture-controlled.
  • Existing Functional Space: Cover furniture and remove small items for a clean, damage-free process.
Stretch Ceiling

Electrical & Lighting Pre-Work

  1. All wiring, fixtures, and mounting points must be in place before installation.
  2. Place Outside the Stretch Ceiling
Avoid placing SMPS/drivers inside the stretch ceiling to prevent the need for fabric removal during servicing. Best Practice – Install drivers and power supplies outside the ceiling for easy access and future servicing.
  3. In Case of Placement Inside the Ceiling
If it is absolutely necessary to place the drivers inside the stretch ceiling, ensure they are housed within a trap door or a removable access panel. This allows easy servicing without disturbing or removing the stretch fabric.
  4. Distance from Drivers to Lighting Fixtures
The ideal distance between the driver and light fixture should be within 5 meters to avoid voltage drop and ensure consistent lighting performance. If the drivers need to be placed beyond 5 meters, ensure the proper wire thickness is used to compensate for the distance and avoid lighting loss. Please refer to the picture below where the illustration is based on 160W SMPS
Stretch Ceiling Installation Prerequisites
Wooden Box
Depth – 150mm (to accommodate lighting and fixtures)
Side Drops – 19mm plywood for stability
Back Sheet – 12mm or 19mm plywood (depending on load / price requirements)
White Laminated Finish (Preferred) – Ensures uniform light diffusion
White Painted Finish (Alternative) – Only if the coating is uniform and consistent
Avoid uneven paint – Inconsistent coating causes black spots due to irregular reflection

Installation Steps

Fixing the aluminium stretch ceiling profile to the wall with a drill Step 01
01

Install the profile and wood frame (fix them by nails at interval of 10 cm)

The aluminium harpoon profile is levelled and fastened to the wooden frame or wall perimeter. Nails are driven at 10 cm intervals so the profile stays perfectly straight and can hold the tension of the stretched film.

  • Nail interval – 10 cm
  • Laser levelled perimeter
Unfolding the stretch ceiling film and fixing its four corners Step 02
02

Fix the four corners of film

The pre-welded film is unfolded and its four corners are anchored into the profile first. Setting the corners correctly squares the sheet and decides how evenly the tension will spread across the whole ceiling.

  • Corner-first anchoring
  • Even tension across the sheet
Softening the edges of the stretch ceiling film by heater Step 03
03

Soften the edges of film by heater

A controlled heater warms the room and the edges of the PVC film, making it elastic enough to stretch without stress marks. Temperature is monitored throughout so the material expands uniformly.

  • Controlled heat application
  • No stress marks or creases
Inserting the harpoon edge of the film into the profile with a spatula Step 04
04

Insert the harpoon with film into the profile

Working from the corners towards the middle of each side, the harpoon edge welded to the film is tucked into the profile track with a spatula. The lock is mechanical — no glue and no screws through the fabric.

  • Corners to centre sequence
  • Glue-free mechanical lock
Flattening the uneven parts of the stretch ceiling using a heater Step 05
05

Flatten the uneven parts using heater

The heater is passed over the sheet once more so any remaining waves, dents or soft spots relax and pull out. As the film cools it tightens on its own into a drum-tight, mirror-flat plane with no ripples or sag.

  • Waves & dents removed
  • Drum-tight flat finish
Completed backlit stretch ceiling ready for handover Step 06
06

Final check and handover — done

The ceiling is complete. Lighting is switched on for a final check, the area is cleaned and the space is handed back ready to use the same day — no debris, no repainting and no follow-up work.

  • Same-day handover
  • Factory warranty backed
